Oakhill is situated within the Conservation Area of Cowes, just 200m from the sea front as the crow flies and a short walk from the Royal Yacht Squadron and other principal yacht clubs. Its elevated position provides it with enviable views of The Solent, being in a prime position for watching both yacht racing and liners on route to and from Southampton. The facilities of Cowes are within easy walking distance as are the fast and frequent Red-Jet passenger ferry services to Southampton (taking about 20 minutes). Cowes is world renowned for its sailing with numerous yacht clubs together with a range of restaurants and pubs providing a thriving social scene. The Isle of Wight has wonderful areas of unspoilt countryside much of which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as stretches of Heritage Coastline including hidden coves and sandy beaches all of which combine to offer a great range of land and water based pursuits. Nearby Northwood Park provides tennis courts and a putting green, and there is a 9 hole golf course close by. In addition the Island has a wealth of attractions ranging from historic houses and castles to hosting some of the countries leading music festivals. Excellent sunshine hours make a very popular location for both permanent and second homes. The Island has a good range of facilities including stores such as Sainsbury’s, M&S and Tesco, with proposals for Waitrose in East Cowes. It is served by three separate car ferry routes (including East Cowes to Southampton) and beyond the Red-Jet running fro Cowes there are additional high speed passenger services from Ryde to Portsmouth and to Southsea, all of which provide good access to the mainland train and motorway network as well as nearby Southampton Airport.

Oakhill was built in the early 19th Century in the style of well known local, John Nash. The house was sympathetically renovated by the current owners in around 2001 and retains many original features including period fireplaces, ornate skirting and cornices and good ceiling heights, all typical of the period. The principal rooms have deep windows taking in sea views and there are balconies to both the dining room and main bedroom. In addition to the flexible accommodation there is a detached studio/office as well as a garage/store (in need of repair). The gardens include an extensive terrace, sloping lawns interspersed with well stocked borders and trees from which the sea view can be enjoyed, forming a wonderful setting for entertaining.

The prominent location of the house is illustrated in historic prints by J Brannon and it is believed Queen Victoria frequently had her carriage parked in the stable block when visiting the Royal Yacht Squadron. There are also historic photographs showing her carriage outside of Oakhill suggesting the she perhaps visited the property. The current owners, as well as having sympathetically renovated the property, operated a high quality Bed & Breakfast facility and, due to its character and prime location it has been in strong demand for Cowes Week lets. Many prominent world class sailors have stayed at the property.
